The Last of Us

The remastered version of Part 1 came to the PC earlier this year, but many of our peers advised against it until the issues have been fixed.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the original Red Dead Redemption game, and it is set in the Wild West of the 1890s. The game follows the story of Arthur Morgan, a member of the Dutch van der Linde gang. Red Dead Redemption 2 is known for its epic story, stunning visuals, and immersive gameplay. Granted, Red Dead Redemption 2 is not a PlayStation exclusive but it’s indeed one of the highest selling video games on the PlayStation 4 console.

God of War

God of War is a reboot of the popular God of War series, and it is set in a Norse setting. The game follows the story of Kratos, a former Greek god of war, and his son Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of Kratos’s wife. God of War is known for its emotional story, satisfying combat, and beautiful visuals. Gone is the angry edgy Kratos, instead we get a sensitive story with intense repercussions and moral dilemmas. 

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the fourth and final game in the Uncharted series. The game follows the story of Nathan Drake as he searches for lost pirate treasure with his brother Sam. Uncharted 4 is known for its exciting action sequences, cinematic presentation, and emotional story. Good night, old king.

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima is an open-world action-adventure game set in feudal Japan. The game follows the story of Jin Sakai, a samurai warrior who must fight to liberate his homeland from Mongol invaders. Ghost of Tsushima is known for its beautiful visuals, engaging combat, and compelling story. It’s worth noting that it was the last PS4 exclusive.

L.A. Noire

L.A. Noire is a crime thriller set in Los Angeles in the 1940s; this is a love letter to the Noir genre and post-War LA with a reported 90% accuracy of the real-life map of downtown LA, thus creating an unintentional digital tourism of the period and the cityscape itself. The player takes on the role of Cole Phelps, a Los Angeles Police Department detective who must investigate a series of real-life inspired gruesome murders. It’s worth mentioning that L.A. Noire is known for its innovative facial motion capture technology, unheard of for the time. 

I can’t begin to imagine the amount of work, passion and patience that went into the creation of L.A. Noire’s recreation of its titular city. The accuracy it strives for and the tone it builds are a testament to that effort, and, given the hardware it runs on, make it an astonishing technical achievement. Although LA Noire did indeed release on the Xbox 360 (with three discs, mind you), the PS3 reigned supreme (until the remastered version brought it to the PS4, Xbox One, and oddly enough, the Nintendo Switch).

Life is Strange

Life is Strange is a coming-of-age story game that follows the story of Max Caulfield, a teenage girl who discovers that she has the ability to rewind time. The game is known for its realistic depiction of teenage life, its complex characters, and its emotional story.

Silent Hill 2

Silent Hill 2 is a psychological horror game set in the fictional town of Silent Hill. The player takes on the role of James Sunderland, a man who returns to Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his deceased wife. Silent Hill 2 is known for its atmospheric horror, its disturbing imagery, and its complex and disturbing story. Silent Hill 2 remains as a cult classic and a fan favourite, and this author adds that he has yet to recover from its ending.
